By means of architectural and artistic processing on various levels of scale, the exhibition uncovers the formal and spatial qualities of these military landscapes. The motivation behind the project was to reveal the structural and spatial typologies of military landscapes; examining the formal similarities and differences between the military landscapes and the surrounding civil landscapes; but also to point out aesthetic qualities of places that are not normally accessible to civilian citizen. Under Værker creates a new way of seeing and describing the Danish landscape.

Under Værker is based on NEPS (North European Pipeline System), one of the Cold War’s most comprehensive building projects, but also one of the least visible. NEPS comprises a comprehensive network of tank systems and 650 kilometres of pipelines, running from Frederikshavn in the northern part of Denmark via Jutland down to Germany.

Under Værker is a Danish play on words meaning both ‘works of wonder’ and ‘works below’.
